The can lists ingredients as: Water, malt, hops, sugar, natural lemon flavour and CO2.
This beer basically seems to be a light lager with added lemon flavour.
Appearance: Phoenix Fresh pours a very light yellow-gold colour with a large, white head that doesn't last much more than 10 seconds and leaves no lace.
Smell: Hmmm, the nose is pleasant, but not very beer like. Lemon concentrate dominates, with some underlying pale malt. The nose would definitely lead one to believe that this is a soft drink and not a beer.
Taste: More "beer" is present in the flavour than in the nose, but it still seems like a typical light lager mixed with lemon soda.
Mouthfeel: The nose and flavour are soda like, but I am pleased to say that the mouth feel isn't. Yes its light, but not that light and the carbonation is actually pretty decent - not the massive fuzziness I was expecting.
Drinkability: I had this beer on a hot day on the beach in Mauritius and it went down very well. I would most certainly drink this again, but as a refreshment, not a beer.
Phoenix fresh is not a good beer, but it's a great, refreshing drink to have on a hot day.
