Brewed with copious amounts of rye malt and fermented with our house yeast. This beer is refreshingly sour with a smooth malty body.

Pours a lightly hazy reddish brown color with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of sweet brown sugar, caramel, light sweet fruit, and a spicy tartness that seems to overpower my nostrils. The flavor holds some fruity malty sweetness up front but that is assaulted by a spicy tartness fills my palette. It feels like a sour ale in your mouth but if you study it closely its a tartness from the rye, I think. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet tarts kind of mouthfeel going on. This is an interesting beer, it is certainly very different. It is a bit one dimensional without the barrel aging. The barrel aged version of this is incredible for my meager palette, this one is just good.

From 03/27/11 notes. Thanks to Thorpe429 for sharing this one; thanks Mike. Bottle 75 of 76, poured into a tulip.

a - Pours a murky brown-amber color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of rye, wheat, toffee, and caramel malts. Lots of rye and nice malts, pretty good.

t - Tastes of sour fruits, citrus, rye, wheat, and caramel malts. Some definite sourness, which is interesting.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation, pretty smooth body. Not much alcohol warmth which is nice.

o - Overall this was an interesting, but nice, beer. Definite sourness in the taste like they were going for, and the rye stands out as well. Would try again, but wouldn't seek out.

Thanks to rpstevens for sending this out my way. Shared at a recent DC tasting and served in a SAVOR snifter.

Pour brings a moderate brown color with a very thin off-white head. No real lacing to speak of. The nose brings forward a bit of lemon rind and a touch of rye. There's a moderate sourness there as well. Some stone fruits and a touch of spice as well. Taste is mostly lemon peel and mild sourness plus a touch of light spice. Mouthfeel is fairly acidic and dry. Pretty good.

Batch One, the non-Barrel Aged version.

Had this as part of the infamous White Birch tasting at the Holistic Institute of Dramming, thanks to Tim. Notes will probably be short since there were so many different beers to note, and drink.

Dark reddish brown mostly clear, with a very fizzy head.

Nose brings some spicy and fruity rye, caramel malts, a light sour malt aroma, and Belgian reddish malts.

Taste is fairly sour, lightly sweet with more caramel malts, spicy and fruity rye, some Belgian reddish malts, light fruity flavors. Pretty effervescent as well, and a little bit of alcohol.

Mouth is medium to lighter bodied with tons of carbonation and a bit of warming booze.

Drink is OK, a little too fruity and spicy to drink quickly, and a bit of warming booze. The BA version is nicer as the oak and bourbon add nice flavors and dull down the rye and booze a bit.
