This batch was created to answer the question: What could we create by focusing on Maris Otter as a base malt? Inspired by English ales of olde, we fermented using a special yeast blend. It was then aged for an extended period of time on oak.
A little sweet, a little tart, let us know if you enjoy it as much as we do. If so we might make it a regular offering.

Batch #1, bottle 30 of 60, thanks to DrEntropy for this one. And sorry I didn't know what else to classify this as, not really a wild ale, the only hints I had were "Inspired by English ales of olde" and "focusing on Maris Otter as a base malt".
Pours a bubbly 1/2 finger head that fades fairly quickly with bigger bubbles, similar to what a lambic may show, no lacing, the beer is a mostly clear ruby bright reddish color.
Nose is different. lots of sweet malts, a light candy like aroma, with some syrups, caramel, molasses, and hint of booze. With that is a semi strong red wine like aroma, a bright red wine like a Shiraz. Also, it's loaded with oak! Oak galore just bombards everything, but doesn't overpower really as the other aromas are sharper. The oak adds a slight vanilla and toasted oak. There's also a slight sour fruit in there.
Taste starts with sweetness again, this time honey comes on strong at first, then some syrups, hint of molasses and candy syrup, then again more honey. There are some sweet malts in there with a hint of reddish malts and some toasty slight earthy malts. Some light sour flavors, hint of sour cherry, hint of lactic acid, a bit of a wild funk in there too perhaps lactobascillis or just a crazy yeast strain. Again it brings just a slight wine like flavor but not nearly as much as the aroma had. Same goes for the oak, theres a definite oak taste, with hints of toasted oak and vanilla, but not nearly what the aroma brought. A slight bitterness like stem or seed starts to come through. A hint of booze pokes through as the taste goes. There's a slight dry feel on it as the honey and sweetness dries out, and it even finishes bone dry almost peeling the moisture from my tongue. it also finishes slightly flemmy to add to the less pleasant super dry finish. Lingering light funk like flavors, bitter stem, some sour fruit all linger on the finish.
The mouth is medium bodied, with lots of carbonation of little bubbles, a hint of booze, and a flemmy and super dry finish.
Overall an interesting beer to say the least. So many different things going on, between the sweet start and bone dry finish, the honey, loads of oak, wine, sour cherry, light wild like flavors, it's all over the map but def worth a try. I would drink it again.
