Bottle 60 of 120
Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the beer is a dark, chestnut-highlighted, brown-to-black coloring wtih a sparse, thin, light brown film that coats parts of the surface and forms a ring around the surface. Aromas of very dark roasted coffee, as well as coffee grounds, earthy tones, toasted grains, and a touch of bitter, dark chocolate. Flavors are very roasted, with a strong coffee and cacao forward flavor that is blended into a bitter attack dog that runs all over your taste buds. Earthy tones and smokey highlights carry the brew along the palate, with a toasty backbone throughout. Very strong flavors leading into a bitter, chocolatey aftertaste. Slick finish, with a slightly bitter, drying linger. Very interesting feel and flavor profile. Good brew.

Bottled 9/2012
Pours into the glass a thick inky back color with a miniscule tan head that disappears almost instantly. At first pour I was getting lots of chocolate, milk and a hint of dark and a bit of caramel but little else. As I let this warm a bit she's really opening up. I get some smoke, light tart fruits, a bit of spice (rye maybe), a solid hit of that roasted barley coffee aroma is in there as well. The flavor is a bit sweet with lots of milk chocolate and sweet caramel flavor. The sweetness is offset with some grainy dark roast a hint of smoke and bit of rye spice. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet silky chocolatey mouthfeel. Wow that's a damn fine stout right there! The smell and flavor are great, I could use just a hint more bubbles, but I probably could have sat on my bottle a little longer too.
