a very interesting and unique brew here, clean as the farmhouse types go, at least in terms of fermentation, but not at all short on character. its light brown with amber edges and holds a creamy light tan head from the tap. the nose is very complex, belgian yeast esters of dried apple, fig, and raisin, some belgian abbey type malt as well, a little molasses and brown sugar sweetness with the long boiled grain sugars as well, subtle banana and clove notes, earthy spiciness from the rye which stands out, some oak, red wine notes, vanilla, plum, and black pepper. sweet and mellow for how complex it is, the yeast is less farmy than i thought it would be, but for once i dont find myself missing that element. its smooth and fuller feeling, but not heavy, and the sweetness is worked down pretty well by the swallow. toasted oak, dates, prunes, and even maple in here. some light oak and wine tannins, the belgian vibe strong through the whole thing, and mild carbonation. its really tasty beer, not overly barrel forward, and less saison-esque than i thought it might be, but a very well made brew and something quite different. the rye is robust enough in here to stand out even with everything else going on, and overall this was among my favorite beers we had here at the brewery!
