16oz can. Bottom stamp is 'PKGD 04/01/24'.
Black colored body, with a mahogany back lit edge. Dark tan colored head, which has a long life as a full cap and higher ring. Leaves behind small lacing webs.
Aroma of chocolate, light bourbon barrel (oak and dark fruit), and cinnamon spice.
Taste is a delicate balance where cinnamon spice is involved with all other flavors. Roasted malts with chocolate. Bourbon barrel with oak and dark fruit (plum and cherry). Gets woody towards the end, and more bitter (less sweet). For example, the aftertaste has the chocolate getting more like cocoa.
More than medium mouthfeel. Gets ashy and very dry at the end. Higher ABV% is made very manageable. Very good carbonation.
Blends come with contrasts and this beer has both - sweet to bitter, smooth to tight and dry.

Pours an effervescent cola/mahogany color with a thumb+ of mocha colored head. Pretty good head retention & lacing

S: Plenty of dark fruit, a little cocoa & cinnamon, raisins once warm, lots of plum, boozy notes too

T: Follows the nose, dried plums, some booze/barrel bite & brown sugar up front. Salted dry plums, some dark chocolate & some barrel rawness as the beer warms up, cinnamon still on the edges, but less in your face than the initial pour, dryness as well. Finishes with some barrel, plums, brown sugar, leafy hops, cola notes 7 a little cinnamon

MF: Medium body, assertive carbonation

I would call this an Imperial Stout of two beer styles. I looked at it as an Old Ale. Cinnamon is a tricky ingredient for me, probably would've liked this more without it, but almost artfully done. Carbonation level is a bit too much, drinks alright for the ABV

Many thx to muchloveforhops3 for this can!

A - Pitch black pour with a dense layer of caramel colored creamy foam.

S - Nice light chocolate char with traces of spice and Bourbon on the nose.

T - Light chocolate char, oak, delicate spice, light Bourbon, and light char bitterness on the back side.

M - Big medium body that's silky smooth and very light warming in the back of the throat.

O - Total rock solid and low on the char.

De Beer Republic. En copa Teku. Jugando a South Park Fractured but Whole. Agradable perfil a barrica de Bourbon con un abv que no molesta en absoluto y solo aporta un calor reconfortante. Está bastante bien aunque tampoco es nada del otro mundo

Poured stout black with a good light brown head which left reasonable lacing.
The taste was a curious combination of porter flavor (and a really good porter too!) followed immediately by dark chocolate and black licorice and really light cinnamon. It was good but I think I would prefer a non-spiced stout as part of the cuvée.
The feel is lightly viscous, a nod to the ABV and barrel aged nature.
OA, I enjoyed this quite a bit, just not sure I’d want to drink a 6 pack of it.

can into glass
Thick and sustaining, tan head. A pour of medium looking viscosity and having an appearance of much darkness in the vein of brown. A slightly tangy sharpness on top of an aroma of dark chocolate and very darkly roasted grains and a touch of woodiness. Medium light bodied. Moderate level of heavily roasted grains and a touch of dark chocolate and deeply toasted caramel, makes up the taste.

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 4-1-24 into a snifter.

Look- Black, opaque, medium brown frothy head, above average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Cocoa, bourbon, cherry, vanilla, coffee, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Cocoa, bourbon, cherry, vanilla, coffee, between medium and high strength of flavor.

Feel- Between medium and full body, average carbonation, moderately bitter, moderately creamy, moderately boozy.

Overall- This beer provided a nice drinking experience. Well done beer all around, but nothing extraordinary.

16oz can served in a little sample glass.

Pours dark brown, almost black. Small, fine head. Surprising carbonation for the style. Smell is light cinnamon (very light, thankfully), light vanilla. And absinthe.

Taste is similarly subtle about the cinnamon, and the whole thing is surrounded by the black licorice / absinthe flavor. Some chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel is big, rich, slight chewiness, light chalkiness. Overall, this is a nice barrel aged stout.

Pours a clear amber brown with lots of foam in the spiky tumbler. Inviting aroma of fruit cake and bran muffins. Warm and malty nose with malty sweetness. Pillowy mouthfeel with prickly bubbles and more beery than unctuous.

I like this because it's NOT so hard and boozy. I like the carbonation lifting the hoppy darkness, that reminds me of a nitro stout-- but sweeter and fruitier. Tastes of cocoa and raisins, but not the burnt sugar. Some caramel and more raisins. The hoppy bitterness and bitter chocolate rounds out the finish. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 04/01/24.

L: Walnut black body, half finger fizzy head.
S: Rich and boozy. Caramel, vanilla toasty malt, hints of maple and dark chocolate, slight oakiness, but mainly boozy caramel and vanilla.
T: Chocolate and caramel in the body. Sweet, but not cloying, and quickly balanced by cocoa and cinnamon, with spice lingering into the finish. Lots of boozy flavors. Toasty nutty notes on the finish, some coffee too.
F: Unexpectedly soft. Usually BA dark beers have this wet, almost oily, low carbonated dense feel. This is slightly more carbonated and has a sort of fluffier mouthfeel, rather light bodied, which is interesting because it is quite warm and boozy flavored.
O: It’s definitely a blend. One foot in two styles, with barrel additions. It feels lighter than it drinks, which I suppose makes it easy among its peers.

16oz can (packaged 4/1/2024) into a tulip. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a thin mocha head.

Aroma is bitter, roasty, porter-esque. Chocolate, coffee, molasses.

Taste follows nose. Bitter chocolate, roasty dark malt, espresso, vanilla. Light bourbon. Some spice notes as it warms—cinnamon, nutmeg etc. Subtle and approachable.

Mouthfeel is smooth, medium bodied. Highly drinkable.

Overall a solid, unassuming porter/stout, very easy to enjoy.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a film of khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cinnamon, allspice, bourbon and chocolate. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, bourbon, cinnamon, allspice, a touch of ginger and nutmeg. Flavor thins out a bit in the finish which has lingering cocoa and spices but not much oatmeal creaminess. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The dominant character here is definitely Spice Wars. The body is thinner and flavor depth not as intense as the base BBA Dark Star, which makes sense because there is a porter in the blend too. Good bourbon and chocolate elements and the familiar Spice Wars spicing. Pleasant, but actually made me want to drink some Spice Wars for the deeper flavor depth.

Pint can of a new Fremont offering, Cambios, barrel-aged cuvee, limited edition 2024. Pours black and forms an enormous mocha brown head. Quite outstanding looking. Smells pretty good too, with the hint of sourness like a barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout. Flavor is creamy and spicy. Milky up front but there's a more complex flavor of bourbon vanilla and anise through the middle. There's definitely oatmeal in this. Very drinkable, very enjoyable. Strong but not boozy. I really like this style, and I really like Dark Star. I feel like this doesn't bring as much complexity as I was hoping for based on the very special looking packaging. But it's still quite good.
