Not your typical Maine Beer Company beer.
NEIPA is the pinnacle of the style.
This beer is somewhat of a throwback.
Lackluster flavor- the flavor profile notes are not resonating with me.
No mango, pineapple, etc.
Nice hop and malt bill.
The look is excellent- light golden color with a 4F head.
The rest of the beer is okay.
Non- descriptive aroma, mostly hop bitterness in the taste.
This beer doesn’t compare to Lunch and their other popular beers.
The hoppy edge is a return to an older style of 6-7 years ago.
Those days are gone.

On tap at Swillburger/The Playhouse in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like floral and spicy hops, juicy mango, and crackery malt.

No matter when i've had this brewery along my journey trying as many craft beers as I can, they always make me happy and impress me. This has a nice floral and spicy bitterness to it, grassy, with just a hint of pleasant malt character, and a very nice mango and grapefruit fruity note.

This is light bodied, clean, and super crisp, with a wonderful drinkability.

This is a pretty special little beer, like almost all of this brewery's beers, really.

Lovely pale yellow body, mild haziness; full, lively carbonation; thick, frothy head, white and semi-creamy texture. Fine grassy, spicy aroma. Light flavor; watery lemon taste; mild to moderate bitterness; dull peppery note. Medium body; crisp; semi-juicy.

This beer tastes and feels like a low calorie beer yet it does pack a 6.5% ABV. It's a decent beer overall, yet comes across a bit lightweight in some quarters.

A: Pours with just a touch of haze, that clears up after a bit. A straw yellow color, with a rocky white head the forms. Good retention and lace left behind.
S: Lemon and citrus pith is up front for me, with a pine resin aroma. A light grainy, malty aroma as well. Simple, and to the point.
T: Lemon and citrus pith again. Maybe a touch of pineapple rounds out the fruity hoppy flavors, with a touch of pine resin. Enough of a malty grainy flavor, and a lingering bitterness which I like.
M/O: A medium body with good crisp carbonation. This becomes smooth, clean, and finishes wonderfully dry as well. Certainly easy to drink as well.

I do like the clean simplicity here, even if it doesn't get to the heights of their other IPA's which I think I enjoy a bit better. No bother, once again, another classic and enjoyable IPA from this brewery.

Look: Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow color that is still translucent in the glass. Generates a great big rocky three finger head of foam that laces the glass exceptionally well. Excellent head retention; it hardly ever dies down until the last few drops of beer.

Aroma: Powerful heady aroma. I could smell it before I even poured it into the glass. Musky, slightly spicy notes of dank grapefruit complemented by undertones of sweet honey and chewy granola.

Taste: Very, very interesting. . . it's light and sweet but at the same time somewhat marine / ocean like with delicate musky notes. Upfront candied coconut shavings and dry, savory flavors of granola and honey. Goes slightly bitter midpalate with earthy, delicate notes of sweet/spicy cilantro. Some zesty notes of lemon and orange zest blanketing the entire experience.

Feel: Medium bodied. Delicately carbonated but still crisp and refreshing. Alcohol profile is low. Floral/zesty/sweet.

Overall: I've never had a bad; or even an average beer from Maine brewing co. This is another winner. When it comes to quality, MBC is easily in the top 5 most consistent breweries in the country.

L: Pours a pale gold color with a light haze. The pour produces two fingers of creamy, slightly off-white head with good retention. As the beer goes down it leaves a nice mass of lacing on the glass.

S: Prominent notes of pineapple and mango, light notes of grapefruit pith, a bit of grainy malt mixing with cara malt character, and light herbal notes.

T: Nice notes of citrus pith, a light note of mango, a delicate grainy malt character, and a very light touch of earthy pine mixing with herbal notes lending a nice medium bitterness that builds as the beer crosses the palate.

F: Medium light body with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is creamy and velvety soft on the palate with a nice light dryness on the finish. Very well done

O: Another winner from MBC. Like most of their fare it is hop forward, but this one has such a nice delicate malt backbone. The hops present a complex mix of citrus, tropical, pine, and herbal notes that really shine. Everyone complains about the price point of their bottles but will go drop 20+ on a 4-pack of some hazy that may or may not be good. Let's be honest, these day (for whatever reason) most NEIPAs are just a muddled mess. At least with MBC you know that with every beer you are getting a unique, quality product with excellent shelf stability. Highly recommended!

Meh - my least favorite of the MBC. I love all their other offerings, but this one falls short even though there's nothing inherently wrong with it. I just don't like the taste and wouldn't buy this one again.

(500 ml bottle, 10MAY22; purchased cold single at Clayton Liquors... poured into my Belhaven proper pint)

L: slightly hazy, pale yellow liquid; bouncy, inflated, steady, off-white foam cap, building high and holding... haze increases slightly with dregs added... surprisingly scant lacing

S: baked pineapple, dried mango, mild capsicum pith; lemon ginger herbal tea?; characteristically excellent expression and depth... earth, grass, nip of nutty yeast

T: lemongrass, hint of floral soap; sugar cookie and spiced lemon in the aftertaste... kind of a powdery, delicately toasted malt character, 'raw' malt as it were... almost a medicinal, aspirin-like bitterness builds mid-palate

F: like drinking a dry-hopped lager: light-bodied, resin-drenched, buoyant, mildly parching... just lovely... the measure of alcohol does help hone the bite of the bitterness a bit, also lighting a small flame at the back of the throat

O: this is more of a basic Pale Ale or at best an English IPA?... still, it's yet another tastily-rendered hoppy beer from them (1899)

This beer pots nice and pale, when held to light shows a slight yellow tint. Nice dense head that slowly becomes more and more compact and dense, leaving a nice thick cap and some beautiful lacing.

A very aromatic and incredibly refreshing zest beautiful hoppy nose. There is a slight almost pineapple zing to it to, which compliments the zesty citrus very well.

The taste is much of the same but their is a little bit more of a noticeable pineapple or tropical fruitiness to it. In this case go very well balanced with the citrus. A nice soft but noticeable malt presence.

It has a medium body with a resiny hop feel to it; nice dry finish with medium bitterness.

Great hoppy beer, nice classic feel to it; it’s bitter dry and drinkable. It has an added bit of fruitiness to it but it’s so well balanced and not overdone that it works very well for me.

500 ml. bottle.
Batch 005.
Bottled 10MAY22.

Medium pour yields a one (plus) inch white head over a very slightly hazy body with nice lacing.
Nose of citrus, slight tropical fruit and a bit of grassy hay.
Taste of slight tropical fruit, citrus; with a very slight bitter pine resin on the finish.
I'm really enjoying the excellent mouthfeel.
Here is a quite delicious and easy drinking offering from MBC and would recommend.

Poured a clearish seethru yellow-gold body with minimal head that stuck around for awhile. Funky, earthy, dirty aroma with some crisp citric hops as well. Smooth, clean beer, has a crisp leafy and earthy hop taste with a smidge of grapefruit sweetness. A really light beer that is easy to drink and has a crisp finish and worth trying.

1pt.9 bottle into a pint glass. Bottled 5/10/22, so not even 4 weeks old.

Looks splendid in the glass. Pale, slightly hazy, yellow body. Small bright white head maintains throughout, leaving rings of lacing.

Enticing aroma. Seems to go back and forth between pine and tropical fruit hop notes.

On tasting, seems to this palate that the grapefruit edges over the pine, with a solid supporting malt. Clean, easy drinking, abv well hidden.

Mouth closer to full than medium, finish a light grapefruit bitterness, but well balanced.

Overall, I doubt these guys are capable of putting out a subpar beer. I know people aren't happy about the price, but frankly I'd rather pay the $7.95 for a Maine Beer than roll the dice on the latest Hazy. Maine always delivers, and they do it right.

Bottled on 17 May 2022.

Poured from a 16.9 ounce bottle familiar to fans of MBC, the body is a hazy gold-yellow with a fluffy head. Lacing throughout the tasting.

Carbonation is good and mouthfeel okay.

Nose is pleasantly tropical and floral, but not overpowering. Taste follows nose and adds a light bitterness mid-swallow. Clean dry finish.

A drinkable solid IPA from a brewery known for exceptional beers. At its high price point, I’ll be looking for other IPA options.

On tap at Das Beer Garden. Clear golden. Smells of tropical fruit, herbals, and grapefruit. Tastes of grapefruit, herbal and grassy flavors, strong grassy bitterness. Lingering sweet fruitiness. Pretty dry, medium body. Delicious, as always.

On tap at Windsor Homebrew in Anaheim, CA.

This beer is like when the beach is partially sunny, but a bit more cloudy. And Raul does not like indecision - come on, Mother Nature - sunny or overcast, let’s go. And right here, Little Whaleboat is kind of clear, and also kind of hazy at the same time - Raul is not a fan. That being said, if she tastes good, who cared if she’s wearing clogs? And Whaleboat tastes just ok. Some tropical notes and a little citrus - definitely nothing special here, my peeps. Maybe the brewer was bored, or even high when he concocted this bad boi. It’s ok, but ‘ok’ doesn’t win medals or show up deep into a dream.

Whatever, my children.

Pours a light golden, lightly hazy, beautiful head retention. Some floral aromatics, I also get some pineapple. Mango and pineapple are at the forefront with a light hit of resiny bitterness. This isn't sticky and is light and drinkable. There is a certain level of elegance to this that kind of goes hand in hand with what MBC has etched out as their trademark in these IPAs.
