Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, BB 08/2014, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass. Notes: the ingredients include, according to the back label, Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts, plus local Golding and Fuggles hops.

A: pours a dark copper colour with good clarity, coming with rather thin off-white fluffy head that dissipates fast, as well as rather quiet carbonation.
S: the aroma reminds me a lot of Adnams’ cask ales, for the way in which the yeasty acidic touch is immersed in the Crystal and Chocolate malts on top of a rather assertive aroma from Fuggles hops; a light touch of sour plums-like fruitiness and extra esters are noticeable in the background, but not over the top. All in all, the aroma is rich and reasonably complex.
T: the lightly nutty, caramely, faintly chocolaty, and overwhelmingly dried-berry-ish fruity foretaste comes rather light in terms of sweetness, quickly ensued by a deepening flow of dry palate of hop bitterness underlined by a mild savoury touch and dried earthy hop flavours. Chewy, bitter, and somewhat herbal in the well-attenuated finish, always with a mild yeasty acidity on the side.
M&O: the mouthfeel is not bad, not terribly soft but the carbonation level is quite decent for a filtered bottled beer, while the body remains medium and never too much, benefiting well from the decent attenuation level as well as the assertive presence of hop bitterness. Not an “eye-opener”, but I’d say this is perhaps one of the more decent brews I’ve tried from this brewery.
