Received in a beer52 order; I don't usually partake in saisons so this shall be a new experience for everyone.
Pours hazy terracotta into a tulip glass from a 330ml bottle. The offwhite head, initially 2 fingers high, dissapates instantly to nothing after a few moments, leaving zero lacing.
The nose is tart strawberry - slightly artificial - loganberry, some tutti frutti, funky yeast, and just a hint of grain underneath it all. It smells sweet, slightly perfumed, and acidic with a definate earthiness.
For me the taste follows the nose with tart strawberry, dried raspberry, tangy funk, and acidic perfume. I'm not familiar with what constitutes a good farmhouse ale but I'll plough on. There is a dominant dried berry character, quite sweet, crisp, and tart with a sour earthy palate that sits beneath it all. In the finish it presents with some dank hop, vinous sours, and mild cereal but the strawberry holds it all together.
This ale is light-medium bodied, zingy, and slightly oily in the mouth. The carbonation gives a little tang on the sip that complements the 6% ABV.
I usually avoid saisons like the plague but the more I get through this one, the more and more I like it. I'm still not a huge fan of the style but I can get behind this ale - even if it does smell a bit like cheap lip gloss.
