2025 editionVery dark with a smallish tan head that is quick to disappear. Aroma, unusual but not in a bad way, almost Smokey : toffee, vanilla, marshmallow, oak barrel & a hint of bourbon. Sweet but not excessively. Flavors: toffee, marshmallow, caramel, very mild stout flavors, some fig, plum, lots it’s oak flavors & just a little bourbon. Not much carbonation, thick & velvety smooth feel. It’s 13.5% is well hidden. Overall: it’s like someone poured a vanilla milkshake into my stout, delicious!

Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a thin beige film that quickly fades to a ringlet; leggy, with a few speckles
Smell: Toffee along with fig, raisin and vanilla cream tones with the Bourbon barrel embellishing
Taste: Toffee flavors forward with the sweetened caramel tones joined by the dark fruit fig and raisin elements; in the middle, the Bourbon barrel arrives, to add complexity, with the vanilla cream adding an embellishment to the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; slight warmth in the gullet
Overall: A little more creaminess in the mouthfeel would be nice but, otherwise, this is a fine Old Ale

Yes its on the sweet side, sugar over malt complexity. Still a good drinker. Thickens the mouthfeel. Nose of toffee, worth seeking out. 2022 bottling, so happy with the robust cellaring as usual from Kuhnhenn high abv beers.

Pours almost still with a thin, brief, beige head that forms at the end of the pour. The head leaves a faint crescent with a few wisps of fog.
The beer is very dark brown and is clear copper when put to the light. A viscous film washes away sparse spots of lace from a Swiftwater snifter.
The aroma has a sweet, malty char of crème brulee and rich, dried figs. Prunes, then brown sugar and dark chocolate lead to a decadence of caramel. Warmth brings out toasted marshmallow, then much later, reveals light oak and peat. Ultimately, it has the impression of creamed Bourbon and Sherry.
The flavor is sweet, with charred malt, following the aroma. Progression is different than the aroma, with figs, then plum pudding, followed by rum and chocolate, and eventually cherries and rich toffee. The finish is long and intense, with light bitterness and oak.
It has a full body and light, syrupy texture that is a bit chewy. While the alcohol is strong, it is still below expectations. The carbonation is faint and almost flat.
This makes for an exquisite aperitif or dessert beer. I enjoyed it while reading, pairing it with Mimolette that accentuates the sweet, mallard flavors of toasted marshmallow and rum-soaked figs.

Aroma hints at plum and toffee. Flavor dives into caramel malt and a fluffy body of marshmallow and toffee. Not bad, complex and sticky, just how I like it.
