Appearance: Arrives with a brilliant copper color capped by an inch of foam that leaves a nice curtain

Smell: Fruity and spicy, with stone fruit elements and an herbal character

Taste: Opens with an apricot and pear and adds some kumquot by mid-palate; at the same time, some herbal peppery flavors emerge, along with a touch of honey; after the swallow, there is a growing tartness that adds a hint of sour, as well but the finish is rather sweet, with the apricot flavor dominant

Mouthfeel: Medium body with crisp carbonation

Overall: Refreshing, yet challenging, as there are a lot of flavors to pick out of the mix; still, it ultimately was too sweet for my palate

Very pretty looking beer with about a finger of head. Nice foamy lacing as it's drank. The beer is transparent and has an orangish-yellowish tint to it. The smell is very faint, but I do detect a slight yeasty smell. It has a sweet taste, but I don't pick up much of the Belgian yeast quality that I have tasted before in saisons. It reminds me more of a pale ale than anything. It is light bodied and very easy drinking. You could have several of these. The 7.7 is well-hidden. Overall, it was good, but I don't think it represents the style well.

On-tap at Kuhnhen. 4oz taster as part of a paddle. Uses hops from the Alsace region of France.

A - Finger of white foam settles to a thick collar and partial cap, leaving minimal lace. Transparent golden with lots of visible bubbles.

S - Very unusual grassy hops, with a weedy (not *weed*) aroma as well. Are these the same hops Fantôme uses? Some peppery farmhouse yeast, and a yeasty and minimally sweet malt backdrop. Maybe a kiss of honey in there, but otherwise mostly unmalted grain.

T - Taste is a bit sweeter with some pale malts, stone fruits, and oranges. Light lemon sourness in the finish. Some herbs from the hops, but less grass and peppery yeast. There's actual minimal correlation between aroma and taste.

M - Medium-full body, lower carbonation, and a dry crisp finish. Maybe a bit of warmth, but the 7.7% is pretty well disguised.

D - Very strange aroma - hard to decide whether I liked it not. It's definitely not a typical Kuhnhenn offering in any case. Like everything I tried on Tuesday, it was solid but not particularly mind-blowing. I could have a tulip of this one, but they have a lot of other beers I'd prefer to drink.
