Served in a goblet at the Only Cafe. Advertised as a Belgian Pale but this beer arrives a dark brown almost black with hints of red in it. No head, light collar.
Light cherry and caramel in the nose. Light tartness with a hint of funk, cherry, toast, a hint of roast, caramel. As it warms, that inevitable Church Key smokiness hits in the nose and taste - not complementary. A decently drinkable beer, just simple and lacking any sort of depth of character. Closest style is a Flanders.
I've had some of most terrible beers from Church Key and this is not one of those but in the category of unimpressive. I'm reminded again that this brewery has a long way to go - but it trying.
