Reviewed December 11, 2011. Poured from a growler into a Pint glass and then once again into a Tulip (strongly suggest a Tulip glass for this one, color comes in better).
Blue Star is the closest brewery to me being 2 minutes from the high school I graduated from. Frankincense is sold to me as a blended drink of two types of beers and then tea (leaves) were added to the last process of it.
A: Poured a one fingered head that quickly dissipated. The body was a nice dark mahogany which is probably from the tea that was added to it, gives it a sweet tea appearance. Carbonation rises moderately and is quite appealing, lacing is weak.
S: I only really only smell some citrus notes and some hop bitterness. Possible Belgian yeast appear as it warms up.
T: This was a very odd brew. I could identify the two styles they mixed were there Pale Ale and their Saison. This drink was served cold to me and so the flavor developed quickly over time. The original taste was a slight citrus that lingered oddly. Luckily when the taste truly developed it became what it was meant to be. It comes on with nice sweet malts with spices and then a nice citrus comes into it. Even a Belgian Yeast taste comes through, possible coriander might come in as well.
M: This feels nicely smooth and the carbonation bites nicely.
O: This was a different brew mostly because it was two drinks slapped together with some extra added into it. Blue Star Brewery is an odd brewery because their brews taste as if a Homebrewer, a not very experienced one, simply applied for a bank loan to open their location and actually got it.
This was an easy drinker that is probably one of their better brews. This feels as if it was made for someone that
