First had: on tap at McMenamins Pub, Mill Creek, WA
Poured a clear amber with a small white head. Light, simple aroma of malts and grains. Taste of sweet caramel malts, and a balancing bitter hop bite. A pretty average ESB with not too much to write home about. Still decent though. Medium mouthfeel and pretty drinkable.

Best beer they make.
Wish they made it all year long. Not as bitter as they're Nebraska, but definetly outranks their ipa. Can be found at most mcmenimins in the fall.
Goes well with fries.
Not a very good head.
Decent aftertaste.
Citrus base. Hoppy back.

Appearance: nice caramel brown color, a lackluster head and thinly stretched lacing.
Smell: (hard to pick at the bar) but I noticed a sweet, candied malt smell as the most prominent. Seemed fitting for how it looked in the glass
Taste: fairly sweet for an ESB. No real bitterness to mention, I should mention, however, a nice hop presence at the end...very mellow though. I like this beer, a great drinker. This is the first McMenamin brew I have had and it's a good one at that
Mouthfeel: All around medium bodied and smooth. I like the way it sits on the tongue. Solid!
Unique for a ESB reminded me more a amber ale than anything, but good none the less.

This is a fall seasonal beer from the McMenamin brothers. Its cloudy light copper in color with an interesting two tone head yellowish and offwhite. It exhibits heavy lacing. There are very citrusy-fruity hops and caramal in the nose. Its taste is very bright. I would say this is too mildly hoppy to come across as a standard ESB, however it tastes very autumnal nontheless. It really tastes like its focused around the malts. This could be a superb hot weather esb, perfect for warmer clear autumn days. It has a crisp finish and a medium-light mouthfeel. There is just a hint of over carbonation. Its a fast beer, start to finish. Not a lot is lingering around for appreciation. Very drinkable beer, especially at 4.77%.

I had McMenamins' Scarecrow ESB at the Thompson Brewery and Public House in Salem. It was poured into a standard pint glass.
The beer was served with no head really, but it was a very nice copper color, the color of autumn leaves. The aroma was of predominately citrusy hops. The beer was poured a little too cold to start off and lacked flavor because of it. After warming. The flavor began with a very nice maltiness and finished with a well balanced hop bitterness. Scarecrow is a smooth and pretty light bodied brew with a pretty low ABV. It would be a good session beer, very drinkable. A good fall beer when its raining and cold here in Oregon.

Sampled at Thompsons in Salem.
This one looks really good. Deep copper colour under a full white head. The smell disapoints. Nothing more than a whisp of grain. That carries into the taste where it is met by a subtle fruitiness that puts a smile on my face.
Hops come to play at the end finishing this one up nicely. Light on the palate and very drinkable.

Ok second beer I tasted at Thompsons last night review from notes of course .
Pretty looking ESB slight haze copper coloured brew..tiny head doesnt last..some nice lacing.
Like most McMenamins beer the aroma is not impressive ( its not bad..just very subdued)Could smell some faint malts..maybe some spicy hops but not much.
A quite tasty ESB..smooth and sweet to start then a good hop bitterness at the end,,good aftertaste.
Nice and smooth on the palate.
A very good session beer ( I had 4 in quick succsession)..I liked it a lot a nice American rendition of an ESB.

Had this at Kennedy School while taking in a movie. Pizza was good, and this beer was an excellent match. Poured a nice hazy copper, slightly deeper though, almost tarnished. Plenty of foam on top than is drawn into the mustache, making a mess. Aroma is slight, partly due to the abundant foam, but of fresh hops and sweet maltiness.
Taste is of substantial balance between nice bitterness and sweet malty goodness. Nearly british in its delivery with just a tad more effervescence to remind that its a new world brew. Drinks very easily, and compliments the food.
