Pint at Thompsons Brewpub ,Salem. $4.35 Nice enough looking stout..black or as near to as i can see and a small tan head. Nice roasty and fruity aromas..OK Very nice intermingling of the roasty stout and bright fruity boysenberry..itv lingers but never dominates the stout.. Nice enough mouthfeel to it,. A nice fruity stout overall

AS is common with McMenamins..long "retired" beers pop up now and again. I guess this is one.

Served on tap at the location by the UofO campus.

A: Very dark. Just a hint of light makes it through with a frothy head on the pour that has a slight purple look to it. Almost a mauve color.

S: You can definitely smell the boysenberry. The interwoven aromas of roasted malts, hops and berry give it a pie smell, but with an herby kick.

T: Amazing. If you love fusion tasting beer, this is a great beer to try. The berry taste underscores the breadiness of the oatmeal stout, so you get a sweet, hearty taste to the beer. The hops give it just enough bite to cut down on the aspect of it being a bowl of oatmeal with berries mixed in.

M: Since it was on nitro, it was especially creamy and smooth. Another aspect that gave it more character, but didn't take away from the taste.

D: Very drinkable. You'll have your first, and be kind of stunned into having another to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

I would highly recommend people to try this.

A: black as night, with a almost purple ora...or at least at the bar. Head was only quarter of an inch and left as soon as it formed. Also a big disappointment as far as lace is concerned. I am seeing bourbon hues at the ring of the glass upon closer inspection

S: standard for a stout (dry grains, roasted malts), with a sugary dark fruit sweetness

T: roasted grains, pushing most the weight--hefty to some extent. Maybe a poof of smokiness in the mix, towards the finish mainly. The boysenberries are prominent with dark fruit sweetness all around, lingers on fictitious. Everything stays in order for the most part...but, this is one of the sweetest stouts I have ever had. Typically, I have associated sweeter stouts followed by a astringency that brings things back to earth, this guy kind of remains sweet throughout. However, it does tame its sweeter side with a slight hop dryness in the finish

M: creamy, velvety, and silky. This beer has a great feel/vibe and drinks easy..despite its sweetness. Body is heavy, as a stout should be and it feels banging right

D: as far as mouthfeel is concerned, top notch. I always love nitro tapped brews. This guy is sweet like candy. I must think that artificial sweeteners are present in this guy...something this sweet in character can be too much with a heavy stout body. In any event, this beer is a calm drinkable and submissively pleasing

This is a Nitro-tap: Boysenberry Stout. Their seems to be a lot of regional variations of specific taps, beers, and drinks from one Mcmenamins to another. I got this one at the market street location
