(Notes of 24/09/07) Tasted by a half-pint at the Hillsborough Hotel in Sheffield, served by a non-sparkler pour.
A: dark chestnut brown in colour, coming with a light off-white foam and rather low level of carbonation. Looking nice and healthy for a beer dispensed without the aid of a sparkler.
S: caramel, a stinky edge of hops, hays, dark sugar, bitter-sweet... just like a malty bitter should be.
T: tastes of caramel, nuts and root-veggie develop before a thin-bodied and sour-sweet aftertaste of malts, leaving a little chocolaty and burned sugary undertone.
M&D: rather thin-bodied, but the fizz level remains good; however, the overall flavour is way too light/thin for this ale to be remembered...
