Juniper Rye IPA

A southern cold spell is giving way to a light winter dusting and our Snow Flurry juniper-rye IPA is the perfect complement to a relaxing snow day. Distinctive bouquets of fruity hop bitterness give rise to additions of Cascade, Centennial, and Citra hops, blending with the warm and earthy flavors of juniper and rye to provide a changing palate of flavors. Snow Flurry will keep reminding you that spring is just around the corner.

Fills the glass with a pleasant honey-gold, with clouds of tiny particles drifting aimlessly within. A shallow, rocky white head lingers a few minutes prior to depositing spots of sticky lace on a Cisco Fisheye pint glass.

Bold orange aromas are upfront and center, only to fade into obscurity, allowing suggestions of faint juniper to timidly present themselves. Warmth releases floral notes.

Bitterness is prominent at the opening and closing, but neutral throughout the middle of each sip. Some pine and a suggestion of grapefruit mingles with peppery-celery and caramel. Toasted rye is clearly present throughout the middle to end. The long modest finish builds bitterness as it fades.

The body is medium to full, with lively carbonation, which develops a scratchy nylon texture. Alcohol appears to be absent.

Snow flurry is a solid beer, but lacks the promise of a fresh pop that would is enticed by thoughts of Spring. This would serve well with friendly conversation.

Pours a hazy pale amber with a nice column of effervesce streaming from the bottom of the goblet. The pour produces 2+ fingers of sliggtly off-white, frothy, moderately lasting head that leaves clumpy streaks of sticky lace. Aroma is spicy, earthy, grainy, lemon/citrus & floral with faint juniper in the background. Taste is grain, caramel, earthy herbal juniper & rye spice mixed with floral, citrus & pine. Produces a low-moderate bitter across the tongue, middle to back, with a floral, grapefruit, piney resin & light pepper mixing with rye spice & malt background producing a nicely bitter, dry finish. Unusually the bitter does not linger in the shortlived earthy, malty, pine & citrus aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, slick, dry, liggtly drawing & peppery.

Pours into a nonic a clear lighter golden with a bone white thick two finger head atop that sticks to the glass nicely as slowly settles. The juniper really stands out in the nose, with underlying citric hops wich come into play more as it warms.A crisp palate, lightly toasted with a smattering of citric hops and spicy rye,the juniper is more subdued than in the aroma profile.Good but not great not one thing brings a big punch in the flavor but a good mix of stuff.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a murky golden yellow with a large white head. The aroma is big on pine with some spice tossed in. The taste is floral hops, with some yeast and spice. A pretty good beer.

Nose has a lot of spruce-like piney quality. Flavor hits you with botanical zest from the juniper and a complementary hop flavor and bitterness. Malt is barely there. Mouthfeel is somewhat sharp and vibrant. Very interesting beer but not something I would revisit.
