Draft at City Bev here in Winston.

Came out a pale orange with large off-white head on top. The nose was very subtle in the smoke category. I expected a bit more that that. Some grainy notes noted, with a touch of orange zest.

Body was crisp and easily drinkable. Refreshing and light. The flavor is really muted as far as smoke. When 'Smoke' is in the name, I really expect more presence and boldness. Very faint toasted kiss. Just a light toasted lager here. A decent beer, just no smoked character.

Served on-tap at City Beverage in Winston-Salem, NC

A: Pours a hazy medium amber in color with moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some brassy highlights. The beer has a finger tall light beige head that slowly reduces to a medium sized thin patch and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas from the smoked malts but not as strong as I might have expected.

T: Again, the overall flavor of the beer is rather malty with some hints of smoked malts and just a touch of earthy hops. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish which only lingers for a short amount of time.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Smooth.

O: I enjoyed this beer but I had higher expectations for the smokiness - I'm one of those people that really enjoys smoked beers (well, smoked meats and pretty much anything else smoked)... I would definitely have another of these and I would pair well with smokey foods.

Note: I chose the Rauchbier style for this one but it doesn't really line up with any specific style as it is a smoke Pale Lager.
