Served on-draught into a .5 litre Steinfels branded glass at Steinfels brewery in Zurich. 5.2% ABV according to their menu. Reviewed from notes taken in June 2010.

A: Pours a two finger head of nice fluffy white cream, fair thickness, and good retention. Body colour is a cloudy semitransparent yellow gold; more reminsicient of a helles lager than a pils. It's quite dark for a pilsner.

Sm: Some citrusy esters alongside caramelized malt. That's all me broken nose picks up. All apologies, lads.

T: Caramelized malt with an awful stale cream third act. Bleh. Terrible malts enter in on the climax and tank the flavour. Simple and clean, but poorly built and balanced for the style. The caramelized malt is nice.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Standard fare. Nothing unique or special here.

Dr: Highly priced by Swiss standards. Decent quality, though. I acclimated to the finish over time, but it's still deeply flawed. Could use more crystal malt. A pretty mundane pilsner, and I'm questioning their brewing methods.

Had on-tap recently at the brewery in Zürich.

Pours a cloudy yellow, obviously unfiltered, but not necessarily aged to the measure needed for a Zwickel. Head is really good, thick and foamy and white. Slices of lacing stick well to the edges of the glass. Looks decent.

Crispness on the nose, quite light and mild, but with a good pils grain and European hop fragrance. Some yeast character comes through as well, but this is secondary.

Taste is similar. Metallic hop bitterness on the front, with a dry crispness on the back. Body is light although the phenolic bite on the back creates a little astringency. Slightly overcarbonated.

Not a bad brew, and a clear standout from their lineup, which was otherwise very disappointing.
