5.2% according to the menu at Steinfels. Served on-draught at Steinfels into a .5 litre Steinfels glass. I believe this is only made in June? Reviewed from notes taken in June 2010.
A: Pours a two finger head of lovely brilliant cream, nice thickness, and great retention. Colour is a hazy amber-copper.
Sm: Extremely hoppy, actually. What? Amber hops and clean pale wheat.
T: Lovely hops typical of a red ale with a wheat foundation supporting them nicely. Some very subtle dark berry esters linger on the fringe. Very refreshing, with a subtle and satisfying climax. The berry stays in the hefeweizen tone but adds to the flavour. Some unrefined sugar is present on the finish. Nicely built and balanced; a bit more floral than expected. Very interesting for the style; it's certainly a departure from tradition.
Mf: Smooth and wet until the climax, whereupon it coarsens to coax out the flavours. Complements the flavour profile beautifully.
Dr: Extremely drinkable. Good quality and affordable by Swiss standards at 5 francs per half litre. I'd definitely have this one again. An unexpeced gem.
