Taster at Growler Guys. Amber, copper color, little to no head. Malty aroma, peat. Taste is true to formula, mildly sweet, malty, peat and some light floral notes.

a pretty sweet and intensely flavored beer here, i had no idea it was so strong when i ordered it, and the pint glass it was served to me in certainly didnt do anything to make me think it was higher alcohol. its deep red in color, holds its head from the tap, and really has a lot of visual depth. its immediately sweet in the note, more concentrated grain sugar than it needs, molasses and maple notes to it through are pleasant, and there is a warming, earthy, baked character to it through the sugar that makes it nice for the fall. a neat herbal note from the heather addition is really cool to, a needed element to keep this from being one dimensionally malty. the heather is nice in the flavor too, almost in place of hops here, but the residual sugar is through the roof, even though the alcohol is well enough hidden, a pint of this is just way more than i really want, its thick and sticky and almost hurts my teeth. its a shame because the flavors are excellent, some of the best i have known created by wallace so far in my experience with their beers, tons of malt richness and earthiness, a pleasant herbal finish, nuances of juniper, bread yeast, and peat, and frankly a lot of character. if they fermented this even a little bit drier, it would be an awesome beer. huge and sweet, but tasty.
