Traditional German style gose made with a hint of salt and coriander. This is our first attempt at a Gose and it is amazing. Tart, light, and refreshing.

this is a basic take on the style, but all the smells and tastes that need to be here are present, the problem for me is in the mouthfeel. it looks flat from the tap, and thats how it feels in my mouth. its heavy from the raw and unfiltered feeling wheat malt and the lack of lasting carbonation, its dry enough, plenty sour to be refreshing and not way too much more than that, but it just sags and so it doesnt quench in hot weather the way i really need the style to to be at its best. that said, the lacto souring is really nice, not something i even knew these guys really did, but they got it right here, clean, not quite lemony, more of a white or white wine vinegar acidity, but not too intense or too long lasting to be problematic, at least for me. the wheat is fresh, the coriander is subtle and summery, and overall this is really well made beer, but it needs the lift of higher carbonation and its just not there, bringing the beer back down to mid range for the style. good not great as it is, but close to excellence...

Enjoyed on tap from McCoy's. Poured into a 16 oz pilsner glass with a flared rim at the top. The notes on their blog mention that the beer was brewed in honor of the Foundry's (a tap house owned by the McCoy's people) birthday.

Appearance - Only the second gose I've been able to sample, and this one is completely different from the last. Head is about a half finger and lingers around the edges, but not very aggressive. Body is a hazy rich orangish-yellow.

Smell - Notes of lemongrass, spiciness and crisp wheaty aromas

Taste - BAM! Reminds me a great deal of a Berliner Weisse because this thing has a definite pucker factor to it. Notes of fresh-squeezed lemon, a hint of coriander, and I do sense the salt, in the same way you can "taste" salt on a meal because it magnifies the flavors of the beer. There is a faint wheat element to the taste as well.

Mouthfeel - Carbonation is on the light side of medium, with a light and refreshingly crisp finish. Dry on the tongue after swallowing and continues to tease those sour-sensing tastebuds.

Overall, a fantastic beer and one that I hope they brew on the regular. Great to have access to a locally-made sour beer that packs a wallop on the palate and not the wallet.
