Poured from a 500mL bottle into my Brasseurs de Garde flute.
Slightly hazy harvest gold body supports a faint active beige cap. Vague lacing; below-average retention.
Sweet-tart, floral, funky nose - faint muscat-vinegar in addition to the expected Brett. peppery/barnyard notes (which are subdued). Some candy-like maltiness and estery yeast notes as well.
Bone dry, mineral-rich, white-wine barrel-tinged palate entry with a sweet, bright, unripe berry/grape note leading into the peppery/funky Brett. finish. Earthy/malty aftertaste with a hint of river stones. Low bitterness, tart but not puckering, funky but not suffused with horse sweat.
Tannic, warming, crisp, perhaps a touch under-carbonated/thin.
Complex, rustic, and well rounded French influenced farmhouse ale. Not a great value, but worth sampling if you have the opportunity.

On-draught @ Ladyface. Rating from notes:
The wine influence is fantastic, with plenty of jammy Cabernet working it's way in. Unfortunately, the brettanomyces yeast character is reticent as can be and it's woefully undercarbonated. Drinks flat and veers towards cardboardy/oxidized, but damn that wine barrel flavour is incredible. With work, this could be a hell of a wild ale.
Brettanomyces lambicus would be the play here (bruxellensis funk just wouldn't add much of benefit) and bacterial additions could help steer this biere de Mars into the wild ale skid. So long as they don't drop the aging time down from its current 22 month duration or source Cabernet Sauvignon barrels from an inferior source, there could be real potential here.
A beer for the wine drinker, but not a showstopper in its current iteration.

On tap at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank, CA.
Pours a clear copper with a foamy tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour with malt, fruit, red wine, acidic, and slight Brett aromas. Taste is much the same with sour malt, fruit, red wine, butter, wood, funk, and Brett flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice interplay between the barrel aging and Brett usage.
Serving type: on tap.

Listed as a Biere de Mars (i.e., March Beer). Brewed using oats, wheat & flaked corn and then fermented with 100% Brettanomyces lambicus in Napa Cabernet barrels.
A: Pours a hazy copperish amber with a half-inch thick white head which fades to a thin cap leaving splotchy lace.
N: Slight tartness, barnyard brett funk, grassy, floral, some oak and vinous notes.
T: Mildly tart, fruity, funky, earthy.
M: Semi-moderate body and medium carbonation. Finishes semi-dry, bretty and fruity.
O: Oh I've been waiting for this, and the wait was worth it. Easy drinking and very refreshing.
