Clear gold with a thick even head. Orange soda nose. Sweet light-medium malt body. A little metalilic on the back end. Lightly crisp.

Pours a dark orange colour with a thick and creamy head, leaving nice lacing on my glass. Orange Popsicle on the nose. The taste has tangerine and vanilla ice cream notes. I prefer this creamsicle ale over the others I’ve tried, probably because this one is more beer-like and less milkshake-like. I would call this beer an orange-vanilla pale ale

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded B25 2 (Feb 25 2022) and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy golden-orange, its body clouded with fine sediment; gathered atop is nearly two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that settles off within five minutes or so. It scatters a glorious pattern of spidery lace about, with a creamy collar and bubbly cap also remaining - looks great to me. Very citrusy on the nose - orange oil and zest are loud and clear, with vanilla and milk sugar underneath. Its aroma practically screams 'orange creamsicle', so it's quite well done in that respect... but there's no real depth here.
The first sip was a strong 'nope', as the aftertaste really put me off, but my taste buds adapted soon enough. Tangerine and orange pop at the forefront, with vanilla and creamy sweetness creeping up later on. Hints of grapefruit and orange pith join in at the finish, which also features an oddly grassy, astringent/bitter note that I can't put my finger on. It's almost chemical-like, but that could just be the intense orange (a common cleaner/disinfectant aroma) playing tricks on me. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation and a soft, somewhat creamy mouthfeel that is pleasing on the tongue. Fair drinkability for a sweet, fruity brew with vanilla: I can finish one can easily enough, but it's almost more than enough for the time being.
Final Grade: 3.53, a B grade. A few years ago, I might've been inclined to toss this brew a few bonus points for creativity... but these days, there are plenty of breweries trying their hands at 'creamsicle' (milkshake) beers, with orange being one of the more widespread varieties. Hightop Hopper is a baseline, standard example of that very fad, doing exactly what it's supposed to do, but nothing more (or less). Recommended to fans of orange/vanilla-flavoured things, and probably worth trying at least once, but I don't see myself returning any time soon.
