On tap at the brewery. Poured into a shaker pint glass.
Appearance - Nice brownish ruby color. Minimal head. Minimal lace.
Smell - Sweet. Stale. Not great.
Taste - Malty. Sweet. Black liquorice.
Mouth - Moderate corbonation.
Overall - The beer is drinkable but it has a slightly acidic smell/aftertaste that was not to my liking. The fact that Karl Strauss is brewing Red Trolley Ale and Karl Strauss Amber just a few miles away doesn't help. Not horrible but not one of my favorite Red/Ambers.

Poured from a tap into a pint glass at the San Diego Brewing Company. Color was reddish brown with about an inch of head. Plenty of film left over.
Smelled dark brown, light nutty. Reddish. Fairly average and non-descript.
Tasted malty with some caramel in there. Nutty. Overall better than the smell.
Fairly good aftertaste. It was consistent throughout.
Probably average on the carbonation. Decent mouth feel.

Poured on tap at the San Diego Brewing Co brewpub. The beer was poured into a pint glass presenting with a deep auburn/caramel coloring and a thin ring of head. The beer has a malty nose, but not a lot else to the sniffer. The beer has tastes of malt and nutty/caramel sweetness. It is more full-bodied than most SoCal ambers, which was a pleasant surprise for me. There is the slightest hint of hops in the aftertaste, with a smooth, round finish. Fairly tasty and drinkable beer.

On-tap at SDBC
A: The pour is the standard color for the style: amber. The head is slightly off-white and is a bit creamy in texture.
S: A pretty decent nose on this beer, actually. Creamy caramel sweetness with a bit of toasted malt and burnt marshmallows.
T: There is a slight buttery quality to the flavor which is a bit off-putting, but otherwise not too bad. A mildly toasty note with the rest of the taste being made up of some semi-sweet caramel.
M: Pretty average in terms of mouthfeel: medium body and in terms of carbonation.
D: Easy enough to drink, but not outstanding in anyway. You're typical brewpub offering, here.

T - Full malt flavor, subtle bittering at finish. Nice.
M - Nice medium body, great coating, good balance and perfect carbonation.
D - This is a beer I could session and not tire of easily.

Being that I'm really ever excited about Amber ales this beer blew me away from the first sip. There is a really nice caramel note, just enough on the sweet side to make it interesting yet not too much so. No such astringent metallic twang that I for some reason get in most amber ales. There seemed to be a maple component there too. Great mouthfeel, carbonation spot on to enjoy this brew.

On tap at the San Diego Brew Pub. The waitress warned me that this one had a very hoppy finish...
On tap at the Brew Pub. Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus, and some grains. Tastes of the same with some toastiness.
