Robustly dark and warming ale with strong flavorsof chocolate, coffee, and biscuits. It is best appreciated as the beer warms and paired with shellfish like mussels and osters, pepper jack cheese or dark chocolate.

Got in a BIF from beertunes. 12 ounce can into snifter, 2019 vintage. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of toffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of toffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark bread/crust, toffee, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, wood, herbal, grass, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome hop/roast bitter/sweet balance; and not cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/resinous/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is an excellent Russian imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV with the modestly bitter/charred/drying finish; nicely soft and not overly bitter/charred/aggressive. Great well rounded rich malt complexity; with balancing earthy hops, and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering hop/char bitter dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on style example. No complaints.
