500mL bottle from a friend that does some work at the brewery. 2017 release. Served in a Jailhouse snifter. Enjoyed 3/22/18.
Pours a ruddy red brown with a quarter finger cap of beige head. Bery little retention but a quick swirl produces a thin surface layer.
Smells excellent. Strong notes of port wine, wet oak, soured grains and sweet cherries.
The flavor delivers on the aroma and then some. Sour cherries, port, wet wood, old bread, oak, earthy grains and some fruit skins.
Medium full, semi chalky feel with pleasantly restrained carbonation. The aftertaste is like wine-soaked sour cherry pie with oak.
Fantastic work from Jailhouse. 2 Year Sentence is a real departure from their typical brews and was obviously well cared for. Highly recommended if you get a chance to procure or try some.
