Funky, edgy, with very tart finish. Plum with the skins taste, enjoyed it over many slow sips. The barnyard must was in the taste and a bit in the smell.

Bottle: Poured a yellow color lambic with a small foamy head with limited retention and light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some nice plum notes and light tart funky ester. Taste is a mix of tart notes with some plum notes with some funky ester and light acidity. Body is full for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable fruited lambic with nice plum notes.

Dark copper orange tone, good clarity when held to the light. Initial finger of foam recedes quickly, leaving behind a collar of lace to one side.
Aroma is fruity and oaky, the mirabelle plum is unique and noticeable. Slight woody spice, stonefruit pits, fruit leather, light barrel funk.
Tart juicy fruit, somewhere between an apricot and plum. Oak lingers lightly in the dry aftertaste. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Carb is light but present, supple and bright feel.
Overall this is good, tried it next to Tilquin’s and this one had more oak presence, brighter clarity, and seemingly a little less fruit density.

A 375ml corked and caged bottle, 2020 vintage, with a best before date of November 2040. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy golden orange colour with an almost two finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly to a nice thin cap, while leaving some nice lacing.
Aroma: Sweet plum, funky, dusty, yellow stone fruit, apricot, floral, perfumy, lemon.
Taste: Lightly sour, tart, perfumy, floral, lemon peel, stone fruit, apricot, plum, and a touch of oak.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.
Overall: I don’t know what a Mirabelle plum is supposed to smell or taste like. But after researching it a bit, it seems that the perfumy and floral character that I’m getting quite strongly could be from these Mirabelle plums. I’m usually not a fan of these characteristics, but it actually works well in this case, complementing the stone fruit apricot and plum flavours. I’m getting nice funk in the aroma, but not much in the flavour, which might have made it more interesting with the perfumy notes if there was. But still, it drinks easy and I enjoyed it.

This is only the second lambic I have had with Mirabel plums, the first was a Tilquin experimental which was fantastic, Cloudy orange appearance even though I let it settle for a month or so and poured carefully. Aroma is honey and clove which was surprising but very nice. More honey notes in the taste, mild lambic, not too sour but not a lot of funk either. The plums are definitely the main focus here. Delicious.
