Deep ruby red, a serious amalgamation of red currants and raspberries, the inspiration known only to one man tending the barrels in the beautiful pastoral village of Gooik, aka the Pearl of Payottenland.

Noticeable acidity in the aroma and taste. Very raspberry forward with the sharp sourness of red currants adding an edge to the rich natural raspberries. A slight vinous note is present, drying out the puckering finish. Spritzy carbonation. It’s about as sour as they come, which can become an endurance test. “Candied fruit sweetness” is a severe departure from reality. This is about as far from Lindemans candy beer as you can get, a little ironic as De Cam blends with Lindemans lambic. Before they have a chance to adulterate it, of course.

A 375ml corked and caged bottle, 2020 vintage, with a best before date of August 2030. Poured into a De Cam stemmed glass.

Appearance: A clear ruby red colour with a one finger pinkish head that dissipated quickly to a ring around the glass while leaving only sparse lacing.

Aroma: Sweet candied red fruit, raspberry, redcurrants, wood, light funk, with leather notes.

Taste: Tart, light sour, leather, funky notes, candied fruit, raspberry, redcurrants, with hints of wood.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to soft carbonation.

Overall: Not as complex as some of the other De Cam offerings, but still enjoyable as the candied fruit sweetness and leathery funk balances the tartness such that it’s easy to drink.
