On tap at the brewery. From notes. Reviewed 9 January 2016.
4/2.75/2.5/3/2.5
Ruddy red. Almost clear. No head.
Bland. Malty.
Grape juice and booze. Comes through as harsh, and cane syrupy nonsense. The aftertaste makes me physically grimace.
As good as Kilt Lifter is, this is so much less good. Do not drink.
Notes
"We decided to do a Traditional Scotch Ale–also called a Wee Heavy, or 120 Schilling Ale–and called it (drum roll) HEAVY LIFTER!
Scotch Ales tend to be on the sweet and malty side of the flavor spectrum with a pronounced caramel flavor. This is not to say it’s out of balance on the sweet side, it just isn’t a big hop bomb. To over simplify, one could describe it as a Kilt Lifter on Steroids, it weighs in at 9.2% alcohol with a very low bitterness (25IBU) which makes it dangerously drinkable. To set it apart from Kilt Lifter, we added 100 pounds of bourbon barrel aged Caramel 80 malt. That malt aged in the barrel for 4 months before becoming part of the beer. Enjoy. Repeat."
