Enjoyed at the brewpub in a shaker pint.
Impressively dark, charcoal black. Some clarity, as ruby highlights sneak through. One finger of frothy, sand-colored head deposits frothy, pocked walls of lace.
The usual cotton candy note in the nose Four Peaks has this in a lot of their beers), along with a little dark chocolate and burnt biscuits. Smooth and roasty, but a little subtle.
Lots of earthy hops, some dirt and a little dark chocolate tang in the flavor. There’s also a lingering big burnt character. Sticks to the sides of the tongue, this acrid roast does. Very burnt.
Medium light body is a bit thin. High, peppery carb and big fizz are slightly off as well. No alcohol, but big bitterness.
Overall, very average. The brewer himself told me if he made it again, he’d make it less bitter, and I’d have to agree.

A: Deep, dark brown with a light brown, foamy head. Fades quickly with some good lace and no head retention.
S: Heavy roasted malt.
T: Roasted, sweet malt dominates. Some molasses. Great beer for the burger I had.
M: Medium carbonation with a good body for a porter. Not watered down like I find some to be. Highly drinkable. Plenty of roasted flavors.
O: Fantastic porter from Four Peaks. That's one style they have nailed (Pumpkin Porter being the other).
