all the beers in here were awesome, really, they were all excellent, well ahead of the curve, especially locally here, but this coffee stout was one of their best. it has a great deep dark charcoal color to it, good refinement obvious, clear for a black beer if that makes sense, and a contrasting airy white head. beautiful aroma of fresh brewed black coffee, low acidity, cold brew maybe but it smells warming and hearty to me not dark and refreshing, hints of toasted coconut, dark chocolate, and burnt barley, really attractive to me. it has a great flavor, really coffee driven and really fresh, toasted marshmallow and almond nuance but not sweet, just the characteristics from the coffee, tropical and jungle-esque to me, vibrant and awesome, bitter enough at the end and well supported by the dark malt structure. not too much caramel types in the middle so this one stays dry all the way though, smooth and a little filling but i want to keep on drinking this. one of my favorites from our awesome visit to peace tree in des moines! a really pretty textbook take on coffee stout!
