a well made ipa to be sure, all of the beer in here is of a high quality, but it was also for sure my least favorite of the hoppy stuff we drank here, this one a little more old school, west coasty, and assertively bitter, especially in the context of some of the other india pales these guys are making, which seem to focus more on dry hops and aromatics, this one is aggressive to me. a nice brassy color to it and a short white head from the tap, super fresh aroma of pine and bitter citrus peel, it smells oily and classic, with a rather mild malt backing as they go. the flavor is solid, maybe some simcoe or centennial leading the way, not sure what they use but it tastes woodsy and familiar to me. the bitterness is high and it lingers long after the swallow, there appears to be a relative absence of malt sweetness for balance, although the sticky nature of the hops softens it a little. hints of cut grass and marijuana too, there is a definite dankness about this one. smooth drinking, medium bodied, and well carbonated. maybe not as unique or subtle as some of their other ipa types in here, but a solid ipa for those who like something a bit more traditional. i remember when we called english ipa, or crystal malty ipa old school, now its west coast ipa that gets that moniker. oh how times change...
