Had on-tap at the Peace Tree tap-takeover at Shorts Burgers & Shine in Iowa City (7.1.11)

A - Pours a deep coppery golden color with one finger of fine white head on top. Lots of lacing on the glass.

S - Smells quite pungently of lemon and grapefruit. Lots of juicy, citrusy hops present here! Mild spicy malt sweetness is also detectable behind the thick cloud of hop aroma.

T - Hops hops hops! Deceptively sweet and lemony up front. Very floral and decadent. This plays very nicely with the honey-like malt body of this ale. The hop bitterness then comes roaring in toward the finish and clamps down hard on the taste buds leaving only a distant memory of what the word "malt" meant. I may be getting a little over-zealous and pedantic here, but seriously, this is one very complex and enjoyable beer!

M - Medium-body with a slightly syrupy but dry finish. Medium carbonation that could possibly be a little bit stronger.

A - A nice bronzed gold color with a decent sized, creamy, smooth, ecru head. Leaves a nice lace.

S - Hops leap out of the glass. Very fruity aroma with lemon, grapefruit, orange, peach, passionfruit, and a touch of general tropical aroma. Slightly floral aroma along with a spiced aroma.

T - Wonderful hop flavor. Starts with citrus lemon, grapefruit and orange. There is a very subtle tartness and bitter taste. Very crisp. Then the stone fruit and tropical flavors come out strong battling with the floral aspects. There is a faint Belgian spice flavor. Finishes with a nice balanced bitter, refreshing flavor. Enough malt to balance out the hops, but it is hop heavy.

M - Medium body with above average carbonation. Gave a very full refreshing feel.

D - Very easy to drink and well balanced. Hops provided great flavors and were very in your face, but were not off-putting.

Notes: Special release on-tap at Short's for the Take Over the Taps. Dry hopped with Galaxy hops. Very nice addition to the base Hop Wrangler. Not as Belgian IPA tasting as the base and very fruity. I very much enjoyed this beer.
