Kinda like Daytime's big, dark and scary sidekick, this ale is packed full of highly roasted malts then bitterly balanced with fistfuls of the dankest hops. Not for the lunch crowd or the faint of heart.

A fantastic looking beer. Black as night with a dark head. Large dense head that lingers and laces.
Complex is the work for both the aroma and taste. While there are similarities that is not the whole story. initial whiff noted the dark malt with not so much roast but a thick syrupy, almost cooked dark extract. this was soon followed by the rich fruity (citrus and tropical) aroma. Here and there are hits of hop extract excess, but they are few are far between.
Flavor has more of the malt. Others have noted that it's stout like and I suppose there is more roast than most others for style, and possible begs the questions for differences between Black Ale and Am. Stout, but that is for another time. Anyway, there is more complexity here. There is some roast and others have noted nuttiness, and I get that too. A subdued sweetness and then the fruitiness of the hops with tropical very nice. This is not dry or bitter and seems to fade on the finish softly.
Quite a big feel with richness and softness.
Some takes are exceptional, but others show flavors that are not quite right, a mix of band blending of flavors and occasional hop excess.

Black color, big beige head. Aroma of pine and roasted caramel. Balanced taste of dark, roasted malt and hops. Decent bitterness. Roasted and hoppy aftertaste. Perfectly hidden alcohol.

Unknown vintage; drank 4/4/15 @ the Yarchives.
Dark brown appearance with khaki flotsam.
HUGE dark tan head (careful pouring!); frothy, tree-rung lace.
Pickle, smoke & orange citrus nose; odd & unappealing.
Medium mouthfeel.
Pickle, acrid smoke & creamed coffee flavors up front; faint orange juice finish.
Simply terrible.

22oz bottle. No dating information found.
Dark brown colored body, with reddish back lit highlights. Two fingers of light tan head, settles down to a pillowy cap. Leaves behind some small webs of lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts and flowery hops.
Taste of roasted malts (coffee and chocolate), with floral hops and a touch of citrus.
Medium plus mouthfeel. Initially smooth and then turns to drying bitterness. Very good carbonation.
Reminds me of a hopped up cola with a drying finish.
