Crowler poured into a Firestone Walker Brewing pint glass
A: Pours mahogany brown with frothy khaki head that settles somewhat quickly and leaves a little spotty lacing.
S: Roasty toasty malt, a little earthy, fruity notes, and some toffee sweetness.
T: Toasty slightly roasty malt, nutty, nice fruity notes, earthy, and some toffee sweetness.
M: A little on the lighter side of medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: FW did a great job on this often overlooked style. Really tasty easy drinker.

Poured brown with a slightly off white head. Aromas and flavors were nutty, earthy, with a hint of herbal hop balancing out the sweet malts. Light body with medium carbonation. Perfect for food pairing but I can see why FW hasn't bottled this one for mass distribution; it's nice to have at the taproom occasionally but it doesn't smack of the normally world-class quality that Firestone bottles, from Pivo to Parabola and everything in between.

On-tap at Firestone Walker Taproom, Paso Robles, CA
A: The beer is clear very dark red in color (brown the viewed from afar) and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that left a large patch of bubbles on the surface, a thin collar around the edge, and some lacing down the sides.
S: Light aromas of nutty malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of nutty malts along with earthy yeast. No bitterness is perceptible, but there are enough underlying hops to mask any sweetness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The earthiness lends some dryness to the mouthfeel.
O: This is nice and malty without any sweetness. The beer would pair well with food.
