Aromas - strong ale comes through right away with the complexity of coriander, lime peel, and even the pepper! Slightly salty aroma comes through too.

Very sweet strong ale flavor, lime, coriander, and salt. Pepper is only slightly perceptible-slightly green taste and a hint of spice. There is an overly sweet after-taste that we're not fond of.

An excellent array of flavors - it's truly amazing what you can do with beer. But we wouldn't go out of our way to have this one again.

Not much to look at. Smell is the tequila/agave. Taste on the middle of the tongue kind of goes straight to the sea salt; feels oily.

Tried this two ways: poured half into a snifter and half out of the bottle and preferred the latter. In the glass where it warmed a little, it tasted strongly of sweet vermouth. Drinking from the bottle, cold from the fridge, I get more of the strong ale base and complements of the barrel aging.

Those looking for mezcal smoke will be disappointed. It's more like tequila. Very little of the chili

Look: semi-clear brown/amber/purplish with a thin off-white head

Aroma: Mezcal, lime, orange

Flavor: The flavor is toffee and caramel as well as the Mezcal and agave flavor, orange peel, lime and lime peel. It has a wonderful lime and agave aroma. There's a lot going on in the flavor.

Body/Overall: medium to full body

Picked up at Trader Joe’s in Asheville on 12-7-22 as part of a mixed 3 pack for $24.99. 2021 edition sampled 11-19-23.

Beer poured brown with a pretty nice off white head.

Nose is awesome as i am getting an agave and lime very strong whiff.

Taste is a large malt base that melds nicely with the tequila barrel giving a very nice agave flavor. Lime adjunct works nicely along with a touch of chili heat. Finishes very balanced.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall this is a nice marriage of the base beer and the barrel.

2021 Vintage

A - Dark garnet/amber color with moderate steady carbonation, dense, frothy creamy off-white head and lots of legs on the sides of the glass.

S - Tequila, spicy lime, and a sticky malt aroma.

T - Spice, Tequila, lime, lemon, spice, and ends on the sweeter side with a boozy presence.

M - Thick, viscous, and velvety silky with some sugary residue on the lips and warming in the back of the throat.

O - This is way better than I expected. A recommended try.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a small, bubbly off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of tequila, salt, lime, caramel and some spice. Sweet agave taste with saltiness, lime, caramel and a boozy heat.

L: Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass - dark brown/ amber pour with half a fingers length of foam risen.
S: Getting notes of agave, sea salt, caramel, lemon. Definitely smells more of a cocktail than a regular beer.
T: Wow this is great, getting the taste of agave with some caramel in the mix. Also getting some lemon, and lime in there as well. Getting a good amount of sea salt and a smokey sensation on that back end of the taste. I didn't pick up on the chili peppers as much but the alcohol is very well hidden by the characteristics of the taste. Definitely a different yet very good beer for what this is. As the drink sits I can sense some chili peppers in here. Very nice!
F: Medium body, incredibly easy to drink. The ABV is very well hidden for a 13.5%.
O: I wasn't sure what to expect buying this. I mainly bought it because I love chili stouts in general and was curious to see what they would do with this, especially since it's aged in mezcal barrels. Firestone is known to make some off the chain crazy good beers and this only adds to that cause. Very well done firestone!

Part of the Vintage Trio Pack $24.99 Whole Foods
2021 Vintage so one year old
Brown-reddish color
Smell of lime, oranges, tequila
Medium-heavy mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
Taste of lime, sweetness of tequila, oranges in finish, although I can taste the alcohol it is not overwhelming for its ABV so nicely done.
Overall a great beer that got better as I drank it.

Appearance: Pours amber colored with a one finger beige head that quickly fades to a collar; dots of lacing

Smell: Orange bitters, Mezcal, chili and lime with a sweetened agave nectar tone

Taste: Malt and agave nectar lay down the base, with the orange bitters, Mezcal and lime emerging; after the swallow, a hint of salt and chili arrive with all flavors intermingling in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: I have never had a Mezcalita so I can't say how well this captures the cocktail but, knowing Firestone Walker, they have nailed it

Light brown with copper hue, minimal head and lacing. Nose has some wood, lime. Taste has unique barrel notes that bring green apple, lemon, astringency. Lighter body than expected and average carbonation.

Dark copper pour with a small amount of head. Very cocktail-esque nose: mezcal and orange with maybe a hint of peppers/spice and a barleywine-ish aroma. Very good. It's sweeter than expected but not overly so. Definitely mezcal with orange and some caramel. As it warms, floral and citrus notes become evident. Mouthfeel is creamy with a moderate finish.

Pours a copper red color and a minimal head that rings the glass.

Taste the malty sweetness right up front mixed with mezcal. The agave is mixed in with salt and lime. The orange bitters are definitely there mixed with a hint of toffee. Very nice!

bottle to snifter.

just tough to get into....tons of flavor and aroma, but hard to enjoy as a whole. Mezcal is definitely a different animal (worm excluded) and tough to really get it to play well with others.

I warmed up to this a bit near the end, but still just OK in my book. All the listed ingredients are noticed at one point or another, Appreciate the effort, but really just want Stickee Monkee back.

I enjoyed this a bit more this time around.....with almost 4 years of age. Mezcal, oak, lime, orange all played very nicely together. Sipping while re-watching Runaway Jury for the first time in a long time. RIP Gene Hackman.
