This is another Chinese menu brew from Epic, but it definitely has Belgian yeast. The label notes the ingredients include rye as well as star anise. But they've used a lot of dark-roast malt, and the stuff has a distinctly tart quality. So "Dark Spiced Wild Saison" pretty well covers it.

Attractive fine-grained foam on pouring into the Blanche de Chambly glass. The aroma of the star anise comes through the hints of farmhouse funk. Pleasantly sudsy in the mouth. Rather malty, and murkier than the typical Saison. Some grainy taste, but more like oats than rye. Just a touch of bitterness at the finish, perhaps some hops-- the label claims 30 IBUs-- but definitely from the yeast.

Overall, this is one of the better brews from the mad scientists at Epic. It's quite refreshing, just nicely if oddly flavored, and it has a lingering sweet and tart taste that's very drinkable. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at QFC in the University shopping center in Seattle.
