Uhmm yeah. This one is spectacular. Poured midnight black with a tremendous dark chocolate heading and globs of lacing left everywhere. Heading stayed put for quite some time.

Smell and Taste were both heavy with chocolate and a nice bite of roasted coffee bean. Some sweeter notes of fruit and a touch of vanilla. The vanilla I didn't get to much of a hint in the nose.

Full bodied and extremely smooth, nice velvet texture. Does not linger for long and has a great bubbling action on the tongue.

I was hoping to come here and find RARE D.O.S. When I didn't see it I was a little dissappointed but not for long after tasting this bad boy.

This is the base beer for the ultra-fabulous Rare D.O.S., and I've gotta tell you, it's not too shabby itself. The brew pours with an appearance so replete and redolent in RIS style that it straddles the line of being trite in description - from the crude black hue, to the legs upon the glass, to the deep mocha froth, the brew has a classic, classy appearance. The nose suggests near-equal parts roast barley, bittersweet cocoa, and charred coffee. As I get deeper into it I experience suggestions of scorched honey, a wheat or oat graininess (pleasant and toothy,) and some burnt and herbal bitterness in both flavor and aroma. The flavor, by the way, carries roughly the same character as the nose, perhaps favoring the grain-based character ever-so slightly. The feel is big and silky, but could use a tad more viscosity if it wants to smash it out of the park. Overall a very good beer by a very good brewer.
