I got a late start on this past Sunday's NBS (Week 774) & I did not finish up my DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure as planned. 8=( Further, I have promised that next week's NBS (Week 775) will be dedicated to the wonderful beers sent to me by @jkblr who seems to have a real handle on my drinking habits. CANsparency is key in these things! As a result, I am going to CANcentrate over the next few days on eradicating everything that would have CANbined to form the finale of the DelMarVa (+ DC) adventure. Sit down, strap in & hang on. It's gonna be a wild ride!
Speaking of Wild, thanks to staying with BAL & MD, I now have a Belgian Saison as my next beer! If this keeps up, I'm going to get my status as a hophead in good standing revoked! 8=(
From the CAN: "Distorted Farmhouse Pale Ale".
Listen to that distortion, man! I really dig the pedal that my mom laid on me for Christmas! I was tired of my wah-wah pedal, anyway.
I beCAN my distortion by Crack!ing open the vent for the CANmencement of a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. This baby just wanted to foam unCANtrollably first thing in the AM & I was digging the wild action. It finally settled in to become two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with great retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose was slightly funkified, but since the knob goes up to "11" on this amp, I was hoping for more! It had a funky lemoniness which was nice, but as others have noted, it fell below expectations. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was initially more muted than I would expect in a) the style & b) from this brewer(y). This being the case, I gave the remaining CANtents a hard swirl & let fly. This REALLY cloudied up the waters, but it also increased the lemony funkiness, so I call that a win. I still thought of it much more as a Belgian Saison than an APA. It was a decent, if not spectacular, take on the style. Finish was quite dry, undoubtedly attributable to the hard-working yeast. I was not disappointed, as some were. YMMV.

16oz can
Pours an extremely soapy white head into my tulip glass, one finger in height. Head fizzes away within a minute. The body is nice and hazy, with what would appear to be a large amount of carbonation. Body is light yellow in color. Even though the haze is nice, this head was gross, so not super good looking so far.
Nose is quite interesting, bitterness is sharp, light grassy hops, with somewhat of a metallic aroma. Very basic citrus aromas of lemon are here. Extremely faint farmhouse yeast esters. Not a huge fan so far, the metallic aroma, along with the lack of complexity and intensity in aroma make for a sub par nose.
I mean, the flavor is tough to judge. On one hand, I could see it being hard to make a farmhouse pale ale, a hybrid, if you will. On the other hand, it can surely be done better than this, I know. The esters come through, if only a little bit. Bitterness is there, but again, it's extreeeeemely small, like barely there at all. Other than that, the beer has a very watery, mineral taste to it. Quite unimpressed here.
The mouthfeel is not too great, again, mineral feel, with an over abundance of carbonation. The body is paper thin. Leaves a tiny amount of lingering dryness, but who cares at this point.
Drinkability is ok, it goes down, but I'm not particularly enjoying this.
The appearance turned out bad, as expected. Zero lacing. Bad head. Hazyness does not make up for this.
Overall, I mean this doesn't taste bad, but I can't say it tastes good. A 3 may be generous in a few areas here.
