For this stout, we used a high ratio of oats (23%) in the mash to create a smooth and full mouthfeel. We added pure maple syrup from Sawtooth Mountain to the kettle for flavor as well as some lactose to ensure a smooth and slightly sweet finish. We used just enough Herkules hops to balance out the intense malt character and finished it with 1#/BBL of Fika Dark Roast Coffee cold steeped in the fermenter. The result is a very complex stout with notes of chocolate, coffee, and maple that has a luxurious mouthfeel and a slightly sweet finish.

On tap. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled strongly of coffee with chocolate and maple syrup. Nice roasted/bitter coffee with chocolate and maple sweetness.

Pours pitch black. 2 finger brown head that has good retention, minimal lacing on the glass.
The nose has some coffee on it, as expected. There's also a slight roast aroma.
Taste - it tastes a bit sweet up front, like a normal milk stout would. It then kicks into the coffee fast. There's also a bit of bitterness on the backside, that lingers.
Good body. Some pop from the carbonation. There's a slight bitterness that lingers in my throat.
A great combination of a milk stout and coffee.

I am not someone that throws around high scores just because it came into contact with maple syrup. The coffee is a little weak and the maple a little too strong. Sweet on sweet with the lactose and the syrup combined. Nice body and carbonation.

Can - Fika Coffee Stout
Light tan head. Dark brown black color.
Nice maple notes all around. Coffee with a light roast. Chocolate and cocoa. Smooth and creamy. Easy drinking. Medium to full bodied.
