Bottle from 2016 Boise stone fruit tasting on 8/27, 750ml bottle thanks to Steven Whatever was being attempted here failed miserably. Ice tea flavors, light fruit notes, not enough sourness. Bad bottle perhaps? Not a good way to celebrate your anniversary.

Flat Tail is a favorite brewery of mine. And hot-pepper beers are a weakness of mine -- I love them! In particular, one of my faves also includes apricots (Burnside Sweet Heat), like this one. Plus this is an anniversary ale, bretted up and oak aged! I had high hopes.
Which it did not live up to. As the other reviewer said, the look and smell are fine, yeasty-champagney. But the taste is kind of dull bread, some sweetness from the apricots, some vague vegetal flavor from the peppers. No heat from the peppers. The brewery brags on the label that it removed the seeds and veins. But maybe they should have left some in. And/or added more peppers. There also was a slight cardboard note -- apparently this doesn't age well, even though the label suggests it will, and it's a strong beer with brett, you'd think it would. I opened it a little over a year after bottling, not a long time in big-beer years.
Oh well. At least Flat Tail is always experimenting. I won't give up on them yet.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy pale yellow body. Huge white head. Lasts forever.

Smell - Smells like a tripel. Yeasty. Kinda grainy. Some sweetness.

Taste - Ouch. Grain. Very yeasty. Lightly tart. I get the apricots after a little bit, but then the peppers make an appearance. Yeesh.

Mouthfeel - High carbonation. Medium light body.

Overall - This is rough. Why do people keep putting peppers into beers where it doesn't belong?
