A Duvel is still seen as the reference among strong golden ales. Its bouquet is lively and tickles the nose with an element of citrus which even tends towards grapefruit thanks to the use of only the highest-quality hop varieties. This is also reflected in the flavour, which is beautifully balanced with a hint of spiciness. Thanks to its high CO2 content, this beer has a wonderful roundness in the mouth. A Duvel is both the perfect thirst quencher and the ideal aperitif.

Duvel Belgian Golden Ale, 8.5% ABV, 32 IBU, style Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Pours thin, hazy golden with huge persistent white foamy head, decent lacing. It was 80% head when first poured but took a while to get a decent picture. Not picking up much for nose, taste is malt, a bit bitter, a bit sour. I note it is highly rated, but for me it's just OKish.

Olhão 12/7 2016. 33 cl bottle from Continente Modelo Supermarket. Funny chunky little bottle with a white label and the name of the beer in big red letters.
Pours slightly hazy pale yellow with an impressive white head. Stable. Settles as a several centimeters thick crown of foam. Massive lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense despite the foam with an odor of Belgian yeast, banana and an earthy touch of humid cellar. Stab of sharp sourness
Medium strong carbonation and a thick creamy palate. Lively yet soft.
Flavor is medium intense and rather tart and sour with only a subdued sweetness. Sourness lingers in the aftertaste.
A fine Belgian with a sour but pleasant edge.

I love me a Duvel glass tornado. The highly carbonated king. One for savoring every sip.

Strong old blonde. Highly carbonated with a big big white head. Don’t pour too fast cause it will overflow.
This one’s a big one.
Sweet, full body and bitter all quickly and together.
This beer is more than a beer.
And I think I’ll know more when a sink another.
Don’t drink fast. Drink slow to know the feel.
There’s still a head on the beer after half an hour. Amazing.

On tap at DeKoninck brewery
Looks pale yellow with a large rocky head that remains throughout. A column of bubbles rises from the bottom.
Smells yeasty and floral with a hint of lemon.
Tastes floral and slightly sweet. Lemon zest comes through in the finish.
Feels light and foamy.
Overall, excellent.

This beer pours a bright golden color with a large head. Aroma is semi-sweet Belgian yeast, very light & malt. Taste is semi-sweet malt and slightly bitter carbonation. What a good Belgian should taste like. BOD 10-2024

Not sure why I haven’t had this beer for about 40 years other than back then I didn’t really appreciate it enough to keep with it. Delightfully bubbly, light, sweet and delicious. More like a real Champagne of beers.

Poured from a bottle.
Pour || Medium Gold, strong foam
Smell || Light apple-cider, wheat hops
Taste || Medium carbonation, sharp flavor. Hops and lemon / grapefruit. Nice citrus + hops + bread finish. Not much spice (in the peppery sense), more grapefruit + hops + coriander combined together well.
