Growler filled yesterday
Pours a light fizzy head that fades fairly quickly, very murky copper orange brown color.
Nose has some mild Belgian yeast notes, hint floral phenols, mild sweet caramel candy malt, little toasty copper malt, candy like sweetness, touch of biscuit and toffee, little fruity esters, Belgian esters and phenols, little banana even.
Taste starts slightly yeasty, with more Belgian yeast, saison characters, mild floral phenols, some fruity esters, banana and spices. Then sweet malts, mildly sweet, little caramel biscuit, candy like little syrupy, hint of what seems like booze probably the phenols though. Hint of earthy hop with the bitter spices. Finish is a little sticky sweet, candy and toffee caramel lingering, little phenolic spices lingering, little esters and Belgian yeast, and some candied dried fruits like dates.
Mouth is med bod, decent carb, little syrupy.
Overall eh, it's like a mildly sweet brown ale with Belgian yeast that's barely saison like, more like a Belgian tripel maybe, doesn't blend well, and the yeast itself is ok but not great. Doesn't seem like a Ben beer as I feel he would be more true to style, but if you did make this Ben, not a huge fan sorry. This was not really what I would call a saison.
