Harvest Ale #1 - an Extra Special Bitter (ESB) style, this fall brew blends three grains and a generous supply of freshly harvested local organically grown wet cascade hops to create a fresh nose and bitter start which blend together with the malts to yield tones of peppery spice

I see the other review is from early October...maybe this should not have been offered up in a growler some three months later? Regardless, thanks to ChrisD for bringing this one back--a new brewery for me!

A-Looks nice. Lustrous copper with a thin off-white head that hangs on strong and leaves nice bands of lacing.

S-Quite malty up front with strong earth tones predominating. Light backing notes of peppery spiciness are secondary.

T-A large dose of roasted malt up front with only the meekest whimpers of spicy hops backing. Not overly hoppy at all.

M-Medium bodied and fairly crisp with a decent amount of lingering pepper hop bite.

D-M'eh....maybe this one was past it's prime. I sure hope so for Figure 8's future! It is an OK beer at best but certainly does not remind me even vaguely of a harvest ale...plus an 8% ESB....huh?

Had on tap...

A- Poured a hazy golden brownish color. One finger head rises and shows medium retention. Light lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Light hops are in the front with a citrus and earthy tone. Biscuty malts in the middle of the beer with some light spicing. This combines with a earthy hops in the ending.

T- Light malts in the front show a biscuit flavor. Some fruits show in the middle with a sweet overtone. The hops in the ending show a bitterness that balances out the malt profile.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Clean malts are left on the palate with a light alcohol in the ending. Flavors a crisp and to the point. Alcohol shows light drying on the palate.

D- This was a good beer. Nothing special about it but the flavor made up for it. Interesting beer to say the least but I would pass for something with a little more flavor.
