Belle epoque
Enjoyed in a tulip at Papago, Belle Epoque is a recreation of a long-gone style called grisette, or little gray. Served to miners as a refreshing, after-work drink, they were supposedly low-ABV blonde ales that are similar to saisons though they lack that style’s lactic sourness. According to the brewer, it’s only brewed in four places in the U.S.
Perfectly clear pale wheat hue. The head is one inch tall and frothy, collapsing slowly to a thin ring. Not much lace.
Interesting, weirdly inviting aroma. Baking bread mixes with Belgian yeast, pear, banana. Crackers, grain, almond, and maybe some lychee as well.
The flavor’s light but enticing and crazy drinkable. Pear, banana, crackers, a bready character like the inside of a bakery. There’s also a touch of lager grain character before a clean, crisp, dry finish.
Moderate massaging carbonation. The medium body is bigger than expected. A little bit of fizz. Super clean and light on the palate.
Belle Epoque’s a drinkable little experiment that would be great for hot weather. Not outstanding, but not bad either. Would've kept my mind off the dreary mines.

Style is described on Papago's menu as a Grisette which I'm going to assume is basically a low-end abv Saison with a different yeast strain. Had in a snifter and this is an exceptionally smooth brew, light in color with a nice balance of spiciness and drinkability (it was what the staff was offering to the guy who asked for BudMillerCoors afterall). A surprisingly excellent find during my AZ trip.
