12 oz bottle, no date, into THAT! NE IPA Snifter.
Dark-golden with slight chill haze and a creamy half finger of head.
Aroma is world-class to me. It's a wonderful melange of cask, barrel, rye, dried wood, floral, gooseberry, and slight bacteria. Perfectly dry, lots of spice, slight sweetness, dried flowers, and tons of dust. It's as if this was aged for 30 years. This aroma just lights up my senses. It's incredible.
Flavor is gooseberries, rye malt, dried wood, floral and clove characteristics, some sour bacteria, and cask. Tailing notes of apple and chardonnay. I could use a bit less sourness, but this is complex as heck.
Feel is grainy, low to moderate carbonation, mild heat, mild pucker.
Overall, if it were a tad less sour it'd be a desert island beer. This is a fantastic beer. Not everyone will agree with my opinion, but this really trips my trigger. It's so comfy and settled in. It already tastes barrel aged, and I've heard there IS a barrel aged version available. *bites finger*. Will buy again. A lovely dusty floral rye wonder child. Perfect for those who love funky beers and the spicy floral character of rye and dried wood.
An absolutely wonderful offering.
