$ 7.57 (Including tax)/22 oz bomber ($ 0.344/oz) at Total Wine – The Rim, SATX
Bottle marked L2015 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – roasted malt and coffee; fades rapidly to nothing
Head large (Maximum 4.8 cm, aggressive pour), tan, frothy, diminishing to a four mm ring and thin layer with a small rocky island
Lacing - none
Body – dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – basically weak coffee and not much of that; no hops, no malt, no alcohol, no diacetyl. However, there is a slight chili aftertaste.
Palate medium, watery, lively carbonation
Did I buy a bottle of coffee with chili peppers added? Well, the label says “Malt beverage brewed with coffee with natural flavors added” so this is probably some type of fermented product. And it’s in a bomber in which I don’t usually see coffee, so again possibly some type of fermented product. But so are soy sauce and nuoc mam, not my usual breakfast fare. Anyway, not particularly beerish.
Appearance 3.5, Aroma 3, Flavor 3, Palate 3, Overall 2.75.

Officially "Bière Joi" (no "LA-31"), a/k/a Bière Joi Percolator Series and Bière Joi Barrel Aged, had poured from 22-oz. bomber, label stamped "L2015," into nonic 1/2-pint. As with many beers from Bayou Teche, rather different, but more than drinkable, for all that.

Deep brown with ruby highlights. Thin khaki head. Most prominent aromas are the caramel malts, coffee, and chile. Flavor is quite sweet. Great coffee and chile. I could do without the chocolate and just roll with the other flavors. Barrel is subdued, which I appreciate. Needs some bitterness to balance the sweet. Again, great use of coffee and chile. Mouthfeel is a bit slick, but has carbonation that wakes the tongue up. If this were a little less sweet and didn't have the chocolate, I would have loved it. Great coffee and chile.
