Cookie Stout. Purchased from the brewery. Served cold into a chalice.
Appearance - Virtually black beer with a deep brown finger of head that fizzles out inside a minute. Some bubbling in the middle indicates carbonation is being released and there would be many bubbles.
Smell - Lots of chocolate, a hint of roasty coffee and a nice doughy background as well. Liquid chocolate chip cookies. After the first sip I can no longer pick up much of anything.
Taste - And this is off. Some roastiness but more sour flavor than anything else. No doughy goodness and the chocolate disappears as well.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, a bit watery carbonation is alright but a bit weird.
Overall - The flavor being off completely wrecks the beer, which I had been anticipating as the nose started very promising (before the first sip). Would try again, as I think this might just be a bad batch, but if this is the beer, it's pretty rough and evokes nothing of cookies in flavor. First deliberate pour in a long long time.
