Poured from a 500ml bottle.
Pours a deep red/brown, thin head that becomes a ring quickly and leaves decent lacing. The smell is full on biscuit with a slight hint of treacle and the taste follows this , a malty flavour and hoppiness join in , very slight bitterness. Nice mouthfeel, prickly carbonation Overall, quaffableband very flavourful . I'd have another.

Had on cask in Old Hunstable, Norfolk, UK, Oct. 6, 2022. Love beers in casks, but this one wasn’t great, might have been at the end of its cask run.

Bottle from Waitrose, would prefer to have it cask but had no chance yet.
Dark gold. Small off white head soon to thin ring.
Aroma flowery sweet and fruity.
Taste light sweet biscuity malt. Flowery and. grapefruit bitterness Nice. Zesty. Good character for such low abv, but not compared to plenty of other good English bitters/pale ales, ut that might be different if I ever have it cask.

500ml bottle.
L: Clear, amber colour with one finger of off-white cream head that leaves rings of lacing.
S: Leafy, earthy English hops.
T: Very sweet malt, orchard fruit and a bitter, stewed tea finish.
F: Medium body, some slick mouthfeel, and prickly carbonation.
O: A traditional Best Bitter. Not a stand-out but pleasant enough, particularly at only 3.8%. Originally intended to be quaffed in large quantities by Norfolk farm labourers. I imagine it is considerably better on draught.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£2.99):
An incredibly clear light copper amber with a 1cm, foamy head that's white & covers the surface with a little more build up on the circumference. The nose is mainly earthy malts, English hops & biscuit but its quite basic & bland. The taste is the same, or perhaps marginally better with biscuit malts & earthy hops, some subtle caramel & bread flavours on top of a medium body that is softly carbonated & fairly smooth but definitely unexciting.

Cask at The Eagle, Cambridge, England
A: The beer is slightly hazy amber yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a thin, creamy white head that never completely faded away and also left thick lacing covering the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of fruity yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of fruity yeast along with hints of pale malts.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a little smooth on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and is quite fruity.
Serving type: cask

Amber color with a thick two finger head with great retention.
Aroma with notes of British hops, stone fruit and red fruits.
Fruity flavor with notes of British hops, cherries, red berries, plums, a bit of sweet grapefruit, peaches and muffled pine. Dry aftertaste with low to medium bitterness.
Light body with slightly effervescent carbonation.
Pleasant and fruity English Bitter with red flavors. Interesting how their yeas was able to deliver those intense fruity notes.

On cask at the Grenadier in London (like the previous reviewer...small world
Warm copper color with a thick white head that stayed with the beer.
Smelled of toast and a some floral notes
Caramel malt with subtle floral flavors, a bit of pine
Smooth and easy drinking....love cask beers pulled from a beer engine

Pint on cask at the Grenadier. I expect this beer would not be very good bottled.
Pours a light amber brown with a creamy sense head that doesn't go away. Nose is...missing. Just a touch of earthy floral English hops. Flavor is better, with a good bitterness and enough fruity malt flavor to keep it interesting. Some cidery notes keep this from being top-notch. Mouthfeel was quite good. Overall, a decent throwback pint on cask...probably much worse in bottle form.

This is an example of old fashioned English Bitter. The bite of the real fruit of hops is dominant none of the shallow banana, grapefruit et al descriptions fit this. Far better from the pump but even in a bottle it represents a really good session beer, proof that strength over taste is a folly.
